We currently have three locations in Thunder Bay, Ontario: St. Vincent school (150 Redwood Avenue West - offers infant through school age programming), St. Ann school (1130 Georgina Avenue - offers toddler through school age programming) and St. Elizabeth school (735 Selkirk Street - offers before and after school care only). We work as a cohesive team which means supporting each other and supporting our centres to be the best that we can be. 

This position would work Monday through Friday at 8 hours per day within our hours of operation (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM) and shifts are determined in repsonse to the care needs of our programs. The location of this role would be dependent on staffing needs and could be at any of our locations, but will be determined prior to hiring. Educators are hired for the organization, not a specific location, however, we do try to accommodate the needs of staff within reason.

The successful candidate would be primarily responsible for: 

- Planning, carrying out, and assessing developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in line with Mahmowenchike's philosophy.

- Individualizing the curriculum to the needs of the children enrolled. 

- Ensuring a healthy and safe environment at all times. 

- Communication with parents, coworkers, and management regarding programming. 

- Working cooperatively as a member of the Mahmowenchike team. 

The successful candidate would possess: 

- A Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent education and experience, 

- Membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators

- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Child Care and Early Years Act and the How Does Learning Happen? pedagogical document

- Standard First Aid and CPR level C (with infant and child CPR) certification

- Current, clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check

- Up-to-date immunization record

- Knowledge of the Ojibwe language and Indigenous traditions, teachings, and culture are preferred assets

- Ability to work well individually as well as part of a team

- High level of attention to confidentiality

- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high energy level 

- Ability to effectively interact with and relate to children in a developmentally-appropriate manner

Please note that permanent positions range from $17.75 to $23.25 hourly for unqualified educators (depending on experience) and $20.25-$25.50 hourly for qualified educators (depending on experience). Please note that these wages do not include any government funding such as the Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant or CWELCC Workforce Compensation Funding.
