The Opportunity

Reporting to the Commander, Regulatory Compliance you will be responsible for providing a high level of emergency medical services knowledge, service oversight and investigations into the service and professional compliance.

This position will liaise with the MOHLTC, Base Hospital, City of Thunder Bay Corporate safety, and other external stakeholders to ensure SNEMS maintains compliance with all regulations.

Some of the accountabilities for this role are:

·         Audits and maintains policies and procedures for the operation of SNEMS and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.

·      Represents SNEMS with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), specifically the Investigations, Certification and regulatory Compliance group (ICRCG), Provincial/Regional Coroner’s Office, Police services, and any other external investigative body.

·       Reviews all divisions of SNEMS to ensure compliance to the Ambulance Act and other legislative requirements and best practices.

·       Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and BLS/ALS Standards of Care by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.

·    Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

·        Provides technical expertise to stakeholders regarding infection control and pandemic planning, surveillance and monitoring as they relate to SNEMS.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

·         Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) certificate in good standing

·         Minimum of five (5) years of paramedic experience

·         Knowledge of land ambulance legislation, regulations, and current practices pertaining to land ambulance services and personnel

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to the public, staff and associated health care providers

·         Must possess and maintain a valid class “F” Ontario Driver’s License, or equivalent
