Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager, Health & Social Services is responsible for the direct supervision of a growing health & social services department and for ensuring the effective delivery of Michipicoten's health and social service programs to serve the needs of all MFN Citizens, whether that be within an Indigenous culturally competent framework, or a best practice model. The responsibility includes forecasting program needs, planning for future requirements, ensuring effective and efficient financial management of programs and services, and seeking funding enhancements to improve service opportunities.  Frequent travel and flexibility to work outside of office hours may be required.  To best serve the needs of Michipicoten Citizens and the Health & Social Services Department Staff, the primary work location is Michipicoten First Nation, with frequent travel to Michipicoten’s satellite offices (Wawa & Sault Ste Marie).

Education & Experience

·         A university degree in Health Sciences, Social Services, or a related field of study (e.g., nursing, health care management, community development or other related degree). MFN will also consider an acceptable combination of education, training, and work experience.

·         Successful completion (or willingness to complete) the First Nations Health Directors Association Certificate program.

·         Minimum 5 years experience working in health setting preferably in the Anishinaabe community; including the development, implementation, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of health and social services programs and services.

·         Minimum 5 years management experience including recruitment, career planning, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

·         Experience with collaborative planning at a community level, ideally with a health and social Services focus.

·         Experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of culturally relevant and safe programs and services.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·         Detail-oriented with ability to put the complex puzzle pieces of community efforts together

·         Proficiency with MS Office applications

·         In depth knowledge of First Nation health and education issues.

·         Knowledge of and experience with relevant health and education legislation

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to build effective relationships with MFN citizens and external stakeholders

·         High degree of confidentiality

Other

·         Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and satisfactory driver’s abstract (if hired)

·         Satisfactory criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector Screen required (if hired)
